This is horrific and I can’t even imagine. It just makes it all the more real and what I found intriguing is after the scene the women and girls are crying, I’m crying, because we’re actively feeling all the pain and horror that our mothers and their mothers and their mothers, went through….that intergenerational trauma is real, and it still hurts. That’s why we still cry.
A very powerful video showing the impact of filming one of the most terrible scenes in a film ever: the forced removal of Aboriginal children in “Rabbit Proof Fence”. It shows before, during, and after the filming of the scene, and the scene itself. It always has me in tears.
The Stolen Generation was one of the most shameful things Australia has ever been responsible for. The impact of it remains part of every day, every person.
WARNING: Possible trigger for residential school survivors.
This is really tough to watch, the whole film is.. If you haven’t watched this film, I encourage you to do so, it’s very powerful.
Jesus god.
Canada has a similar history, residential schools and horrific abuse and First People families torn apart. I didn’t know that there had been the same thing in Australia, though it doesn’t, in hindsight, surprise me.
Gonna go hunt up where I can find a copy of “Rabbit Proof Fence.”
I remember watching this scene back in high school, and I couldn’t help by tear up. I can see why they had to take a moment after shooting it.
